Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner’s divorce is headed for a court battle. The actor, who announced the end of his 18-year marriage in early May, filed a lawsuit asking his ex-wife to vacate the mansion in Santa Bárbara, California, United States. The property, with private access to the beach, is the actor’s favorite, and Christine’s refusal to leave the property violates the terms of a prenuptial agreement.
In documents obtained by People magazine, Costner claims, through his legal team, that the ex has been delaying the departure of the old house in which they lived, inventing “one unfounded argument after another”’. In the text, Costner even sets a deadline for Christine to leave the mansion: July 13th.
Costner’s lawyers claim that Christine has US$ 1,500,000 available – a little over R$ 7 million – to find an “alternative housing”. The actor’s defense also claims that there are several viable houses nearby for her to make her choice. Elen also offers to help her with the move, in addition to providing a stipend for renting a property until she finds a new home.
In the document, the actor still accuses his ex-partner of spending too much and justifies the cancellation of credit cards. He explains that Christine would have requested an amount of approximately US$ 100,000, equivalent to approximately R$ 480 thousand, to pay her card bills. Alarmed by the expense, Kevin took the first step of lowering the limit. However, as she continued to spend, he decided to cancel the cards. Kevin and Christine have three children – Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13. The actor has four other children from previous relationships.
