THE Sheila E. became the first female solo percussionist to achieve stardom in the Walk of Fame in Hollywood.
“I feel honored and blessed to receive this prestigious award,” said the musician, whose real name is Sheila Escovedo. “This is a moment I will cherish for the rest of my life,” he said during the star’s unveiling ceremony, which was attended by former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr.
Grammy and Oscar-winning R&B singer, HER spoke at the ceremony held in front of the Musicians’ Institute on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Sheila E. known as “Queen of Percussion”, in addition to her hits “The Glamorous Life” and “A Love Bizarre” and her long-term relationship with Prince, she toured with music legends like Marvin Gaye and Lionel Richie and worked with stars like Phil Collins , Gloria Estefan and Beyoncé. For five years he toured with Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band.
Born in Oakland, Sheila Escovedo grew up surrounded by music, her father, percussionist Pete Escovedo, bringing his band and friends such as Tito Puente and Eddie Palmieri to their home for rehearsals and her uncles playing in a number of groups from punk bands to Carlos Santana’s band.
