Gigi Hadid was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia upon her arrival in the Cayman Islands from the US last week.

The supermodel, 28, who was traveling with her friend Leah McCarthy, arrived by private jet at Owen Roberts International Airport on July 10 and went through customs with her luggage.

Customs and Border Protection officers ran her bag through a scanner and hand-searched it, finding a “small amount of marijuana and smoking paraphernalia.”

The marijuana was ruled to be “for personal use only,” although Hadid and Leah were arrested on charges of importing marijuana and importing paraphernalia for smoking cannabis.

The star’s case was forwarded to the Royal Cayman Islands Detention Center – where bail was arranged and she was later released pending prosecution, local newspaper Cayman Marl Road reports.

Hadid and McCarthy appeared in Summary Court on July 12 and pleaded guilty. Both were fined $1,000 and no conviction recorded.

Hadid’s rep said: Gigi was traveling with marijuana legally purchased in New York with a medical license

It is also legal for medical use in the Cayman Islands as of 2017. Her criminal record remains clean so she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.
