The Minister of Culture and Sports, Lina Mendoni, and the Governor of Central Greece, Fanis Spanos, signed a Cultural Development Program Agreement. According to an announcement by the Ministry of Culture, the object of the contract is the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Region for the preparation of the necessary studies for the promotion, renovation and maintenance of the Archaeological Site of the Sanctuary of Artemis, so that the respective project is included in financial program.
The Program Contract has a duration of 12 months. The total budget of the project -76,840 euros- is covered by credits of the Region of Central Greece, while the procedures of their elaboration and approval are undertaken by the competent services of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
After the signing of the program contract, the Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni stated: “We have a stable cooperation with the Region of Central Greece and with the Regional Governor Fanis Spanos for the promotion of projects for the protection and promotion of the cultural heritage of the Region of Central Greece.
The Region recognizes the importance of the protection of the cultural reserve and its connection with the development dynamics of the local communities. The Program Contract that we signed, ensures the continuation of the project of promotion, renovation and maintenance of the Sanctuary of Artemis, a site directly connected with the Homeric epics, which remained a place of worship throughout antiquity. Our efforts aim at the protection and promotion of the cultural wealth of Evia, but also at the strengthening and promotion of the cultural tourism of the wider region. For his part, the governor of Central Greece, Fanis Spanos, said the following: range. Our first step is the forthcoming opening of a bypass road in order to unify and protect the archaeological site. We cooperate with the Ministry of Culture and Sports and undertake the cost of all necessary studies and precursors (fencing, etc.), which will be prepared by the competent services of the Ministry.
Our common ultimate goal is to take advantage of every funding opportunity for the renovation and promotion of the archaeological site of the Sanctuary of Artemis.
