Howard Hughes’ historic mansion in Los Angeles is up for sale.
The billionaire filmmaker, who died in 1976, lived in the house for about a decade. During this period, he produced two of his most iconic films, Hell’s Angels (1930) and The Marked One (1932).
Hughes’ Los Angeles mansion was also featured in the 2004 biopic Flying Cross, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio as the famed producer and pilot during Hollywood’s golden age.
Designed in 1926 by the famous architect Roland Cote, the mansion has passed through many hands. Its current owners are former film producer Ash Shah and his wife Nirupa Shah.
After buying the Los Angeles home in 2011 for $6.3 million, Shah and his wife have put it up for sale for $23 million.
The Shahs have spent the past decade renovating and expanding the house.
Speaking to the New York Times in 2015 about the mansion’s renovation, Nirupa Shah said: “We just modernized it and tried to make it a little brighter.”
The eight-bedroom, 12-bathroom home sits on over half an acre of private land that offers not only views of the golf course (it’s adjacent to the Wilshire Country Club) but also of the hills and the beginning of Old Hollywood.
The backyard residence has a swimming pool, stone oven and is surrounded by greenery, including many varieties of citrus trees.
