Miley Cyrus recalls fight with Sinéad O’Connor in 2013: ‘Exhausted of being judged’

by

Miley Cyrus’ new single was accompanied by an intimate interview with the former Disney child actress. To promote “Used To Be Young”, the singer participated in the special “Endless Summer Vacation: Continued (Backyard Sessions)”, on the American channel ABC.

One of the points discussed was the public disagreement he had with Sinéad O’Connor, an Irish singer who died at the age of 56 in July of this year. In 2013, when she starred in controversy, she was criticized by the artist for the video for “Wrecking Ball”, in which she appears naked, after saying that she was inspired by “Nothing Compares 2 You” for the production.

At the time, the owner of the 1990s hit said that it was not cool to go without clothes, lick hammers and allow yourself to be sexualized because it could overshadow the talent in music. “None of the men looking at you care about you either, don’t be fooled. You are worth more than your body or your sex appeal,” she wrote in an open letter.

After the episode, Miley released screenshots of Sinéad’s tweets and compared her to Amanda Bynes, a 2000s teen movie star who faces mental health issues. Now, she said she expected negative reactions to the clip, but not from other women who have been in that position and said she was unaware of the struggle the Irishwoman was waging.

“I had no idea what a fragile mental state she was in and I was also only 20. So I really couldn’t understand mental illness that much and all I saw was another woman telling me that wasn’t my idea. .”

“I had been judged for so long by my own choices that I was exhausted and I was in this place where I was finally making my own choices and my own decisions and to have that taken away from me deeply disturbed me. God bless Sinéad O’Connor truly, with all seriousness.”

After Miley’s publications, the singer threatened to sue her for making fun of her and Amanda Bynes. “Do you have any idea how stupid and dangerous it is to make fun of people suffering from illness? I mean, really, really… who advises you?”
