He “danced” in the rain and won the Grand Prix of his homeland the impressive Max Verstappen!
The Dutch world champion left no room for improvement and succeeded ninth consecutive his victory this season, in a… crazy race that ended up being interrupted for 45 minutes due to heavy rain. In second place is the emotional Fernando Alonsowhile the third place was taken by Gasli taking the podium for the fourth time in his career after his five-second penalty Sergio Perez.
At the start 18 of the 20 cars started on the soft Pirelli tyres, with the sole exceptions of Hamilton and Hulkenberg, who started on the mediums, with Verstappen holding on to first place and Norris trailing but not threatening him . On the other hand, Alonso made a very strong start and took 3rd place very early on.
During the race the rain affected the performance of the drivers who changed tires with Verstappen dropping to 4th but not for… long. In particular, the 25-year-old made his own counterattack, overtook Gasli and Zou to be in 2nd place and it was only a matter of time before he left behind Sergio Perez who was the leader at that point.
In the end, Verstappen was back in 1st place, with Perez in second and Alonso firmly in 3rd, but on the 17th lap the Safety Car appeared for the exit of Logan Sargent, who was unable to continue with the car “pinned” to the guards barriers.
