The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki is one of the largest museums in the country and the central one in Northern Greece. The collections there include numerous objects from prehistoric times to the end of antiquity. They come from excavations carried out throughout Macedonia since 1912, as well as from collections and traditions.
The museum’s permanent exhibitions start from prehistoric Macedonia and end in the 4th century AD. Also, in the museum you will see an outdoor exhibition with sarcophagi and altars from the cemeteries of the city, while in the same place there is also a representation of a wealthy urban house of Thessaloniki.

Macedonian Struggle Museum

The Museum of the Macedonian Struggle is located in the center of Thessaloniki, next to the Cathedral. It is housed in a neoclassical building, designed by Ernesto Ziller and right there you will find the Macedonian History and Documentation Research Center (KEMIT).
On the ground floor you will discover 7 rooms where the main phases of Macedonian History of the 19th and early 20th centuries are shown (Struggles for Freedom, Macedonian society, representation of the consul general’s office, characteristics of the Struggle, etc.). In addition, in the basement you will have the opportunity to see representative scenes from the era of the Macedonian Struggle.

The Photography Museum of the MOMus organization in Thessaloniki is the only museum in the country dedicated to the art of photography. It studies and promotes the art of photography and cultivates the aesthetic point of view and the public’s familiarity with it. His action is national in scope, while he has undertaken important initiatives for the presentation of Greek photography at an international level.
There you can discover older as well as new contemporary trends from 1890 to 2015. Among them, there are archives of Yannis Stylianou, Sokratis Iordanidis, Dimitris Letsios and many more. The Municipal Art Gallery has three exhibition spaces, the Casa Bianca, the Yeni Mosque and the Aladza Imaret, buildings with special architectural and historical value. It organizes and hosts periodic exhibitions either from its permanent collections or in collaboration with institutions and museums.
It was founded in 1966 as part of the Municipal Library of Thessaloniki and since 2013 it has been housed in the old Casa Bianca mansion. The gallery has, among others, works by Nikolaos Gyzis, Giorgos Paralis, Polykleitos Regos, N.G. Pentzikis, Vassos Katrakis and many other artists, while the collection of Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons is important.

The Museum of Byzantine Culture will make you travel to the world of Byzantium, through exhibits that come mainly from Thessaloniki and Macedonia in general. The permanent exhibition is divided into 11 rooms covering different time periods. Thus, you will be able to learn about each era separately and understand the changes that took place over the centuries.
In the Museum’s collections, you will see approximately 46,000 monuments and works of modern or modern art, dating from the 2nd to the 20th century AD.
