Can love and romance accompany a person at the same time? Does an event that divides us at the same time unite us?

Are there men who let their deep emotional side show?

Questions like these and many more will arise for the viewers who will watch the “Mysterious Variations” with Yiannis Bezos and Pygmalion Dadakaridis, which will be staged from tomorrow at the Aristotelion Theater under the direction of the latter with Sotiris Tsafoulias.

In Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt’s work, a Nobel Prize-winning author – played by Yannis Bezos – lives alone on a small island in the Norwegian Sea and avoids everything, especially people.

However, after a persistent effort by a journalist – who is embodied by Pygmalion Dadakarides, he agrees to give him an interview. Whether there is something that connects the two men and what paths they will be forced to cross and overcome, will unfold through a show full of twists and turns.

“For me to get into the process of tackling a project, what interests me is to be able to see it as an image, as a performance, being realized. I found that out as soon as I saw the text,” Yannis Bezos said in a press conference given today by the project’s contributors, pointing out that he said “yes” to a season he had decided not to work on.

“However, I was very excited by this proposal, the roles, the work as a temperature and I said it is worth it, even though it is something difficult, because it is a male duet”, added the popular actor, characterizing his presence as one of the best moments of his 45-year career in the field.

“I was impressed when I read the play how finally two men in today, can talk so beautifully about love and how it defines us in our lives, in this journey we live with ourselves and our fellow human beings. In other words, how does it affect two different people and they manage to find each other”, said his co-star, Pygmalion Dadakaridis.

He himself came into contact with this text 12 years ago and entrusted it to his dear friend and director Sotiris Tsafoulias from whom he received the “green light” to co-direct it, which happened after several years.

“I consider that the core of the work is more relevant than ever, because in essence it shows us how an event that divides us, the same event, without any change, if we change our perspective towards it, can become an event that can unite us”, emphasized Mr. Tsafulias.

According to the director, it is one of the works that does not deal with a topical problem, but with timeless values of humanity, that is, things that will concern people no matter how many thousands of years pass. “The attitude towards life, death, romance, love, loneliness, are values or concepts that will always concern us, whatever costumes we wear, whatever gadgets we have, at whatever time level and if we are,” he explained.

“Blessing” the participation of Yannis Bezos

The director Sotiris Tsafoulias emphasizes that in his professional career he did not do any work either in the theater or in the cinema without Pygmalions Dadakaridis, however the “real blessing” of this meeting – as he said – is Yannis Bezos.

“I’ve never met an actor with this career standing up to things like a student and a teacher at the same time. To generously give his experience and advice, to be open to hearing things,” said Mr. Tsafoulias, underscoring that this bond carried over from the stage into their lives, with that chemistry helping the project reach the public.

Yannis Bezos, for his part, explained that he is more interested in coexistence with the younger ones, as opposed to the older ones with whom he … hurts. “The younger ones always have something to reveal to you mainly through their embarrassment and not from the supposed knowledge and authority which overwhelms us and has brought us to the situation it has brought us to. In other words, the theater is a permanent question mark and for so many years what I have managed to do is to maintain my question marks and within this logic I decided to work with the children as well”, he said characteristically.

The male duo “breaks” with the dynamic presence of the actress Bilio Marnelis, who declares that she learns a lot by observing the acting process of the two actors as well as their behavior off stage. The producer of the show warned the viewers to come with …tissues, because in addition to the clever humor, there is also a lot of emotion.

“Mysterious Variations” is staged at the Aristotelion theater from tomorrow until October 15 with seven performances a week: Wednesday at 7pm, Thursday and Friday at 9pm and Saturday – Sunday double performances at 6pm and 9pm.
