It’s no secret that Dua Lipa leaves the album behind “Future Nostalgia” and is moving into a new, more creative phase in her music, inspired by the psychedelic sounds of the 1970s. Just a few days ago, Lipa deleted all of her Instagram posts, hinting that something really big is on the horizon. Additionally, on various streaming platforms, she has replaced her album and song covers.

Before releasing her second studio album, Future Nostalgia, in March 2020—yes, right in the middle of a global pandemic—Dua Lipa had already employed this strategy. Nevertheless, both Dua Lipa and ‘Future Nostalgia’ stood out. There are songs that today are considered classics, such as “Don’t Start Now”, “Levitating”, “Break My Heart” and “Physical”.

So, let’s remember moments of the famous singer that made her stand out:

  • “Future Nostalgia”

It is her second studio album, which was released on March 27, 2020, by Warner Records. Its inception dates back to early 2018 and was inspired by the music of artists Dua listened to during her teenage years, such as Nelly Furtado and Gwen Stefani. The album features a mix of genres such as pop, electro and dance-pop, with influences from funk, house, euro disco, synth-pop and R&B. Lipa herself has described it as a “dance lesson”, while also drawing inspiration from the music of the 80s, 90s and 2000s to create a contemporary, yet timeless danceable sound.

  • “Don’t Start Now”

In October 2019, Dua Lipa, after announcing her return to the music scene, did a “cleanse” on her social media accounts, deleting all her previous posts. Then on October 22, 2019, she shared a video with her fans. In the video, he was sitting on a chair while the caption was playing “Don’t Start Now” and a snippet of the song was playing in the background. Two days later, on October 24, 2019, he officially announced on his social media platforms that the song will be officially released on November 1, 2019, along with revealing the single’s cover art. This song later became the lead single for her upcoming album.

  • “Physical”

The album’s second single was released on 31 January 2020, drawing significant inspiration from the 1980s.

  • “Break My Heart”

This song was released on March 26, 2020. Lipa previously acknowledged that her new single draws inspiration from “I Need You Tonight” (1987) by INXS, continuing in the footsteps of her earlier success. “Break My Heart” reflects Dua Lipa’s own experiences. Through special effects, we follow her journey through various vivid and imagined scenes as she struggles with feelings of insecurity in the face of a seemingly impossible love.

  • “Hallucinate”

On July 10, 2020, the official music video for “Hallucinate” was released. For this, Lipa chose an animated video inspired by the Studio 54 aesthetic. Lipa faced a “playful” criticism from a fan who questioned the choice of an animated music video instead of a traditional live-action production. She replied:Have you forgotten that we have been in the middle of a pandemic for the past 3 months?».

  • Levitating

On October 2, 2020, Dua Lipa made a big splash with ‘Levitating’, a song that combines various musical styles such as dance-pop, pop-funk, power pop and space rock. It draws inspiration from the pop and R&B sounds of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

  • Barbie

Who could forget the buzz created when she revealed her role in the Barbie movie? In the movie, she brought Malibu to life and it was impressive.

  • “Dance the Night”

Her song, starting with the combination of violins and synthesizers, mixing with the beats, ends up with a flawless melody that complements the lyrics perfectly. A combination of pink, sparkling clothes, high heels and exquisite dancers swaying to the seductive rhythm of disco music, all combined harmoniously with the charm of Dua Lipa’s figure and the power of her voice. This synergy extends to Margot Robbie, who, as Barbie, follows the choreography in moments of the film.
