John Stamos’ journey with alcohol addiction was a long one, filled with many ups and downs. But there was one particular moment that led him to detox once and for all. In his memoirs “If You Would Have Told Me”where will be released on October 24, he details how low he fell from his alcohol addiction and how sobriety has shaped him in the long run.

“I had to react. I drank too much“, says Stamos to “People”. “I just fell too low. I was surrounded by people who should be away from me».

He said when he was arrested for DUI in 2015, he knew he had to do something about his addiction. “My arrest happened and I was thinking “I can’t do this. I have to come back.”“, he remembers.

Stamos eventually checked into rehab, which he admits was “dark” for a while. But he noted that “began to improve” and later “I made a lot of really good friends».

He then admits that his sisters helped him in his fight for rehab, but also that immediately after rehab, filming for “A Crazy Family” began.

Now, having stayed sober for many years, the actor says he owes it to his wife Caitlin McHugh and son Billy.

“I’ve been kept on this path because on the path of being sober and taking care of yourself, everyone is trying to help you… So staying on the path of sobriety is mostly about me».
