Pantelis Dentakis has a remarkable career in the artistic field and recently “invades”, in a dynamic way, the small screen. The actor, who plays Loukas Augustakis in his drama series SKAI “The Pantheons”, talks to skai.gr about his relationship with television and the role he “holds” in the series. It also reveals some of the developments that we will see in the near future, while also referring to the theatrical performance “King Lear”which will be staged at the National Theatre.

-How do you feel about the fact that, in recent years, channels are investing more in major fiction productions?

Greek television needs good productions. Productions with scripts that respect the intelligence of the viewers, with funding that meets the needs of each time, with notable professional actors, technicians, actors. The role of television in shaping the quality and level of society is – for better or worse – very important, so the sense of responsibility that all the people who work for this medium should be proportional.

-You star in the adaptation of Tasos Athanasiadis’ novel “The Pantheons”. How would you describe the collaboration so far?

I’m really glad to be a part of this series. I deeply appreciate the whole team of people, who work with love and professionalism, for “Pantheos”. I think that Spyros Michalopoulos has laid the foundations to create a nice company that works together with joy and creativity.

-What is the biggest difficulty you have to face?

Television is a medium I know much less about than theater. This, I could call “difficulty”, however for me the unknown that one tries to discover, can only be called “exciting”…

-You play as Loukas Augustakis, who is Andreas’ best friend and his partner in the clinic. What kind of man is he?

Lucas is a man who knows how to love. He wants to truly connect with others, he is ready to be a sacrifice for the people he cares about, yet he is deeply hurt by lies and hypocrisy.

-Andreas and Loukas have a lot in common but also basic differences. Can you reveal some of them to us?

Both love their partners deeply. Both are extremely hurt by the ‘fraud’, yet each of them handles this overwhelming condition quite differently…

– Will the brotherly-friendly relationship of the two men pass any test or will they always be by each other’s side?

I want to believe that this relationship has great resistance to the difficult situations that the two friends face and will face in the future.

-Lucas loves Nina, but at some point, as foreshadowed by the developments we see, their relationship is tested. Will they give their relationship a chance or will the glass shatter once and for all?

Nina and Lukas are one of those couples who give the feeling that they will spend their whole lives together, because they sincerely love and appreciate each other.

-“The Pantheons”, although they take place in another era, do they somehow reflect today?

The story takes place at a time when Europe, but also the whole world… is boiling. What is more common than today!

-At the same time, you are in the rehearsal process for the play “King Lear”, which will be presented at the National Theatre, directed by Yiannis Houvardas. Tell us about this collaboration…

I am working with Giannis for the first time, so for me it is a new field of search. I desire in every job to respond to an open channel of communication and exchange.

-What is the role you play?

The Duke of Albany. He is one of the few heroes in the play who, in a world of hypocrisy, cruelty, vulgarity and corruption, retains even a rudimentary sense of empathy and a sense of justice.

-What are the messages you want to convey through this project?

The theater is a space for dialogue and not for messages. In this particular work, the field of discussion is a decadent world, in a state of collapse, frolicking in a sea of insanity.

-You have an important career in the artistic field both as an actor and as a director. Do you feel vindicated about your choices so far?

I’m good at what I do. Happy, in general. What concerns me a lot, is what art I want to make in a world that we all see is in contradiction and conflict. I keep asking myself, what do I want to say today? And sometimes, I think I want to be silent.

-What are your other professional plans?

For now, there are no future plans that I can share.
