Elizabeth returns to her activities after celebrating 70 years in the royal throne

by

Queen Elizabeth returned today to Windsor Castle in west London and is expected to return to her normal activities after celebrating in low tones the 70th anniversary of her reign.

The 95-year-old queen, who has largely retired from public life after health problems in October, is expected to “return to her normal activities”, according to the British news agency Press Association.

Ahead of a ceremony in memory of Prince Philip’s late husband in late March, Elizabeth is expected to attend a diplomatic reception in Windsor on March 2 and a Commonwealth ceremony on March 14.

According to Buckingham Palace, the religious service in memory of Philip, who died in April at the age of 99, will take place on March 29. Elizabeth had given her consent for this ceremony in December, but the date had not been specified.

The announcements came the day after February 6, the anniversary of Elizabeth’s accession to the throne, the first British monarch to reach the 70th anniversary of her reign.

Cannons were fired in honor of the Queen today in London, in the eyes of the world.

At noon, King’s King Troop Royal Horse Artillery fired 41 shots at Green Park in central London. 62 artillery shells were fired at the Tower of London an hour later.

Yesterday, in a message issued on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee, which she celebrated in Sandringham, in the east of England, Elizabeth reiterated her commitment to serve the British.

Elizabeth ascended the throne at the age of 25, on February 6, 1952, the same day that George VI’s father died of lung cancer at the age of 56.
