On this day, December 20, 2009Giannis Moralis, one of the greatest painters of the “Generation of the ’30s”, passed away at the age of 93, leaving behind great works that have remained forever in eternity.

He was born in Arta and at the age of 6 he moved with his family to Preveza. In 1927 they decided to move again and settle in Athens. In the same year, he decided to attend classes in the “Sunday class” at the Academy of Fine Arts, having settled down, despite his young age, to become a painter. In addition to being a painter, however, in the future he also worked with engraving, while he was also a professor at the School of Fine Arts (from which he graduated in 1936).

He took part in many exhibitions in different countries of the world during his life. His first solo exhibition was held in 1959 while he was already a great painter. He married three times in his life to Maria Roushen, Aglaia Lymberaki (with whom he had a son, Michalis) and Ioanna Vassalou. He met and collaborated with great artists, such as Yiannis Tsarouchis, Christos Kapralos, Nikos Nikolaou, Tasso, Yiannis Kefallinos, Nikos Chatzikyriakos-Gikas, Pantelis Prevelakis, Antonis Sochos.
