In a moving tribute to Matthew Perry – who millions of people loved as Chandler Bing on ‘Friends’ – the Emmy Awards honored the untimely actor, in the standard video of the important people in the arts who died in 2023.

The awards honored Perry with the song “I’ll Be There for You” – the title song of the series “Friends” – which was performed on stage by Charlie Puth.

The video also featured actress Angela Lansbury, actor and director Alan Arkin, journalist and author Barbara Walters, Harry Belafonte, Irene Cara and Christy Alley.

Matthew Perry was the last face to appear on screen during the song as the audience applauded enthusiastically.

On October 28, 2023, Perry was found unconscious in the hot tub of his home in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, and was later pronounced dead as a result of ketamine ingestion and drowning.
