The Ottoman monuments, the Kasta tomb in Amphipolis and the holy monastery of Timios Prodromos, were at the center of the working visit made today in Serres by the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, accompanied by the general secretary of the ministry and several officials of the ministry’s departments.

Mrs. Mendoni described the delay in the utilization of the two Ottoman monuments located in the city of Serres and which are among the most important in Greece as pending for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“In 2024”, noted the minister, “all the necessary procedures will begin for the preparation of a new restoration study as well as a study of their use.

According to Greek legislation, all monuments of each period are treated with the same respect. We will do the same for the Ottoman monuments of Serres.” Mrs. Mendoni also noted that after the restoration of the monuments they will be given for cultural use, also stressing that the Serres Antiquities Ephorate needs new exhibition spaces.

When asked about the Kasta mound in Amphipolis, Lina Mendoni emphasized that the work is progressing normally and the project that was included in the previous financial period was completed and for this reason she did an autopsy on the work site. “Already, we are preparing the studies”, he added, “for the next financial period 2021-2027 in order to continue the project and advance all the necessary infrastructure in the surrounding area.
