American actress Sigourney Weaver was honored yesterday with the International Goya Award in recognition of her impressive career, as described by the Spanish Film Academy, during which she embodied “independent, complex and strong female characters”.

The 74-year-old, known among other things for the role of Ellen Ripley in “Alien”, she is the third actress in a row to receive this prestigious award, which since its creation in 2022 has been awarded to Cate Blanchett and Juliette Binoche.

“I’m always looking for stories about women and for women, to remind us … how powerful women are in all kinds of unexpected ways,” Weaver told an audience of big-name stars, including Penelope Cruz, at the Goya Awards ceremony held in the city of Valladolid, in northwestern Spain.

The famous star paid tribute in turn to the Spanish actress María Luisa Solá, who has voiced her in over 30 films, starting with Alien.

“The excellent actress who dubs me should be up here too” she said, to a standing ovation from the audience, while joking that her performance is much better when dubbed in Spanish.

The jury praised how versatile, charismatic and talented Sigourney Weaver is, playing roles that range from drama, like Diane Fossey in Gorillas in the Mist, to comedy like Ghostbusters. .
