The Oscar-winning actress, Hilary Swankin an interview with Wall Street Journalrevealed that after her parents’ divorce she and her mother Judy lived in a car.

“In Los Angeles, my mother and I lived on quiet streets in the car” said the actress characteristically. “When we weren’t sleeping there, we were staying at a new friend’s house who was about my age, whose family had just moved and were trying to sell their house. We were sleeping on an inflatable mattress.”

She told the paper that as a child she lived with her family in a mobile home in Bellingham, Washington, and while she always tried to look on the bright side of things, she experienced rejection from children her own age.

“It wasn’t until my friends’ parents kicked me out of dinner parties and games that I realized living in a trailer park made me unwanted,” she explained. “I also realized that where we lived was the biggest problem for people, not who I was.”

The famous actress started out in a local theater group, while some time later her mother found a new job as a secretary, so they were able to rent a room.

After signing with agent Bonnie Liedtke, who reportedly discovered Leonardo DiCaprio, she began to stand out in TV series such as ‘Harry and the Hendersons’, while making her film debut in the film “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” in 1992.

“I was excited to be living my dream,” she said, crediting her mother for encouraging her to pursue her goals. “He understood the excitement of performing and why acting made me come alive.”

And he added: “When I’m in Los Angeles for meetings, I drive past a street where my mom and I parked to sleep. Despite the difficulties, I feel nostalgic for those days when we had nothing.”
