For many years they have been collaborating in anti-cancer campaigns and environmental initiatives watchmaker Hublot and the band Depeche Mode.

For the return of the British band after six years, with a new album and a world tour, Hublot presented the wristwatch Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode. Memento Mori, the band’s 15th studio album, came after a hiatus that was the longest hiatus between albums by the song-makers like ‘Enjoy the Silence’ and ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’. Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode is Hublot’s tribute to the band’s return to the limelight.

With an all-black color palette and the barrel-like shape that is the trademark of the Big Bang series watches, the watchmaker and the band took the time to design it, incorporating as many elements of homage as possible: on the dial, the skull motif , the emblem featured in Depeche Mode’s comeback video; which pattern features an hourglass, symbolizing the passage of time. Small black ceramic spheres go back and forth as the wrist moves; this movement brings to mind the concept Memento Mori, “reminder of death” in Latin.

Memento Mori is a meditation on the transience of life and also a reference to Depeche Mode’s hiatus and re-emergence, ending up as the title of their new album. On the Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode – only 100 pieces are available – the initials DM appear at 6 o’clock and the hands are shaped like stacking pyramids, a pattern repeated around the black ceramic bezel watch. The case looks like a wine barrel made of sandblasted and polished black ceramic material. It is automatic, with a power reserve of 50 hours. Those who acquire it, receive two bracelets each made of different materials.

With the appearance of Depeche Mode’s Spirit of Big Bang, the Swiss watchmaker and the British music group have renewed their partnership to raise funds for a number of environmental and humanitarian causes. Hublot participates in raising funds and raising awareness on behalf of the Conservation Collective, an international charity that works to protect, preserve and restore the natural environment. The two’s joint projects aim to promote local waste management, clean-up and plastic-free initiatives; last year they managed to support seven plastic pollution initiatives in seven countries. Their initiatives, with the appearance of the watch, continue to expand, allowing them to raise over $2.3 million for the Teenage Cancer Trust in Britain.
