Separated from film producer Stephen Belafonte for almost six years, Mel B said she still suffers from panic attacks and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The singer once again said that she lived in an abusive relationship with her ex-husband after ten years of marriage. “I tried to put an end to the relationship six or seven times,” she recalled.
Melanie Janine Brown participated in the program “Loose Women” about domestic violence. Although Belafonte denied her ex’s accusations and classified them as “outrageous and unfounded”, the singer said that she suffered physical, emotional and financial abuse.
“The millions of dollars I earned when I was with the Spice Girls dwindled to just a few hundred. I even secretly shopped at Lidl (an establishment famous for its low prices in several European capitals) to survive.
Mel acknowledged that she has spent the last five years saving and moved this month to a converted farmhouse in West Yorkshire, near London. In addition to her work with the Spice Girls, Mel rebuilt her fortune, gaining lucrative jobs on American television shows such as the US version of “Strictly Come Dancing – Dancing with the Stars” and was a judge on America’s Got Talent while living in Los Angeles .
