Kate Middleton wins new title granted by King Charles III

by

Kate Middleton has just won another title from King Charles III. The Princess of Wales is the newest member of the Order of Companions of Honor and becomes the first wife of a member of the royal family to receive such an honor.

The announcement of the new title for Prince William’s wife comes a month after Kate told about her fight against cancer, discovered during post-operative exams. She underwent abdominal surgery in January and did not say in which organ the disease was identified or the stage.

The Order of Companions of Honor was founded in 1917 by King George V (1865-1936), grandfather of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), and recognizes individuals who have achieved prominence in fields such as art, literature, music, science, politics, industry or religion.

Only three other people have received the title: actress Maggie Smith, physicist Stephen Hawking (1942-2018) and South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu (1931-2021).

In addition to Kate Middleton’s inclusion in the Order of Companions of Honor, Charles III appointed William as Grand Master of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath. This position has been vacant since 2022, when the king stepped down after his coronation.

The Most Honorable Order of the Bath, dating from 1725, is a British military distinction, awarded to veterans of the United Kingdom army.
