A rare piece of rock history straight from the hands of Jimmy Hendrix, reunited after 55 years. In February 1967, the legendary guitarist appeared with his band at the Bath Pavilion in England in place of Chuck Berry, who canceled his last-minute appearance.
Two girls, aged 15 and 16 at the time, approached Hendrix and asked for an autograph. He tore a page from a notebook in front of him, cut the paper in half and handed them an autograph. In addition to Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding (members of his band) also signed.
As it turned out, on the back of the page he signed were the lyrics for the 51st Wedding Anniversary, a song that was released as a b-side by Puple Haze three weeks after that concert.
The two girlfriends lost touch over the years, each holding her own autograph. More than 50 years later, one of the women visited a rock’n’roll memorabilia store in Lancashire to ask for a price for her autograph. The owner asked her to find her old friend to join the page, something finally happened after the other woman had kept her autograph. They jointly decided to sell their autographs and now the combined page has a value that exceeds the five-digit number.
According to the owner of the souvenir shop, there are few manuscripts by Jimi Hendrix and even fewer signed by him, so the value of the page with the lyrics can go up even more.
Jimi Hendrix passed away three years later, in September 1970.
