A24 and his production company Steven SpielbergAmblin Entertainment, join forces to bring to the big screen the famous novel by the American author and musician, James McBride, “The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.”

Although it’s in early development, for now the famed director will only be producing, reports Deadline.

“The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store” tells the story of a group of Blacks and Jews who live together in the Chicken Hill neighborhood of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, during the 1920s and 1930s. But the book begins several years later, in 1972 with the discovery of a skeleton in a well.

It has received many accolades, and was named by NPR as one of the best books of 2023. It was also on former United States President Barack Obama’s list of his favorite books for the same year.
