Brazilian and international artists used social media to demonstrate against the war in Ukraine, started by Russian President Vladimir Putin this Thursday (24). They expressed concern for the population of the region – who suffered attacks by land, air and sea – and asked for peace.
American actor Mark Ruffalo wrote on Twitter that people did nothing to deserve this perversion and lewd spectacle. “Sending love and good prayers to all the innocent people of Ukraine, Russia and Europe who are trapped in this sad and corrosive time of asymmetrical violence and destruction, especially young people.”
The singer The Weeknd showed solidarity with those affected by the conflict in the region in a post on Twitter. “Unfortunately, I’m only now seeing what’s going on with the conflict and will take a break from tomorrow’s announcement. I pray for everyone’s safety.”
Actor Marcos Pasquim shared photos of the traffic jam with people trying to leave the conflict region. “It looks like a movie scene but it’s real, people are fleeing Ukraine because of Russian attacks, no one should be forced to leave their home,” wrote the actor.
Presenter Luciano Huck published on the networks that leaders need to be able to mitigate crises. According to him, a war in Europe in the middle of the 21st century is a civilizational setback, impacts the world and hinders global development. “It’s cruel, degrading and unjustifiable.”
“Who cares about a war in Europe now? You can always give peace a chance. Not for romanticism, but for realism,” wrote the presenter in another publication on the network.
Marcos Mion is another presenter who has taken a stand against the war in Ukraine and said that it is unbelievable to see images of bombers. “It’s not possible that in the middle of 22, with all humanity trying to evolve and live based on respect and equality, we have to suffer with images of bombings… images of war… it’s unbelievable.”
Singer Zélia Duncan wrote on Twitter that “war is tragedy, failure, defeat of all”. Actor and councilor Thammy Miranda (PL-SP) asks God for mercy for those who chose war. “May God have mercy on those who choose war, but even more mercy on those who have nothing to do with it.”
The actress and presenter Giovanna Ewbank said that seeing the images of the war in Ukraine look like a horror movie and seeing it on her timeline makes her deeply sad. “My sympathies to all the people who are suffering from these clashes. My prayers are with you.”
“Some days we wake up and it feels like we are living in a horror movie. The images of Ukraine that I see on my timeline make me deeply sad. My solidarity with all the people who are suffering from these clashes. My prayers are with you.”
