Brazilian influencer and model Janaina Prazeres claimed to have been the victim of an attempted femicide during a trip to Paris, France. She reported her boyfriend for assault and threatening to kill her in an episode that took place on May 14th at the hotel where the couple was staying.
According to Prazeres, the attack included several blows to the face and attempted strangulation. She claims to have been rescued at the scene and taken to a hospital. “I was vomiting blood and my vision in my left eye was compromised. I had fractures in my nose, jaw and left eye socket,” she said in a clarification note published on Instagram.
The boyfriend, Kalel dos Santos Dias, was arrested in the act by the French police, who are investigating the case, according to Prazeres’ report to the Encontro program (Globo) this Thursday (30).
The two had been together for four years. According to her, the trip was an attempt to wean him off drugs. “We traveled, the days were difficult, but I thought ‘he’ll get better'”, said Prazeres in a video in which he reported the case.
On the night of the episode, according to the model, he had difficulty sleeping, left the hotel room and, when he returned, began attacking her. “He came and knocked me out. I passed out and when I came back, I was in a lot of pain. He wouldn’t calm down. This happened two more times. The third time, I managed to get my pulse here [no pescoço] and he was trying to hang me. I think he couldn’t put me out, so he started punching me a lot,” he explained.
“When I got up, I felt a horrible burning pain and a lot of blood on the sheet. I could no longer see out of that eye. [esquerdo]”, said Prazeres. She said she asked her boyfriend to stop, but he tried to choke her again. “It’s agonizing, because you can’t breathe. I was already very exhausted, so, at that moment, I said ‘I’m going to die here’.”
She claimed to have managed to leave the room when her boyfriend went to the bathroom and asked hotel staff for help, who called the police.
On social media, the model shared the police report registered in Paris. She shared a sequence of photos in which she appears with her eyeballs red, with blood, and her face swollen and purple. On May 17th, according to her, she returned to Brazil, where she was promptly admitted and operated on. She was discharged four days later.
“I’m at home recovering. Now, it’s time to rest my body and mind,” he wrote in stories.
Prazeres is a model and was the muse of Acadêmicos do Tatuapé at the São Paulo Carnival in 2024. She talks about aesthetic procedures on social media and was chosen by a Norwegian magazine as the “perfect woman”, according to standards established by artificial intelligence.
