Lately, the “Little Reindeer(Baby Reindeer) is the ultimate hit on Netflix – dark, suspenseful and based on the true story of Richard Gadd, who fell victim to an obsessive woman who stalked him for years and made his life hell.

Of course, the Fiona Harvey (Fiona Harvey) – the real “Martha” of the series – has said that the Netflix adaptation is exaggerated and in many places untrue, with events that never actually happened.

Since it suddenly became worldwide famous – with television interviews and headlines – now Harvey testified complaint in the US against him Netflixfor defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, gross negligence and violations of publicity rights.

The real Martha claims that she did know Gand and they did communicate, but she never followed up with him or sent him 41,000 emails, hundreds of voicemails and 106 letters. She has also denied assaulting Gand’s girlfriend, sitting at a bus stop outside his flat for hours alone, threatening his parents, or being sentenced to nine months in prison for harassing Gand.

In the lawsuit, Harvey says she never sexually assaulted Gand and had never served a 5-year prison sentence for a previous similar case.

“The lies that the defendants (Netflix) told over 50 million people never stopped, because it was a better story than the truth, and the best stories made money,” the official documents state.

“The multi-billion dollar platform did literally nothing to corroborate the ‘true story’ that Gadd told. That is, he never investigated whether Harvey was convicted, a very serious misrepresentation of the facts. He did nothing to understand the relationship between Gadd and Harvey, if there was one… As a result of the defendants’ lies, bad behavior and completely reckless misconduct, Harvey’s life has been ruined. Simply put, Netflix and Gad ruined her reputation, her character and her life,” the lawsuit also states.

Harvey is seeking at least $50 million in actual damages, at least $50 million in damages for “mental anguish, loss of enjoyment and loss of business,” at least $50 million for “all profits from ‘Baby Reindeer’,” as well as $20 million in punitive damages.

For its part, a Netflix spokesperson told the Guardian: “We intend to defend the case vigorously and support Richard Gadd’s right to tell his story.”
