JK Rowling rebuts PL Antiaborto and expresses solidarity with Brazilian women

by

Creator of the “Harry Potter” saga, British JK Rowling, 58, was against PL Anti-Abortion and even sent a message showing solidarity with Brazilian women for X.

“Terrible. The Brazilian women who protest against this law have my sympathy and solidarity,” he wrote.

The publication was a response to a message from a Brazilian follower who had explained the content of the law to her. He asked the screenwriter to send a message on her social networks. After the interaction, he received praise from fans on the social network.

Bill 1904, which was urgently approved last Wednesday (13) in the Chamber of Deputies, wants to place a ceiling of 22 weeks on the performance of any abortion procedure in cases of rape in Brazil.

Today, the procedure is only permitted in three situations, which are pregnancy resulting from rape, risk to the woman’s life and fetal anencephaly. The first two are provided for in the 1940 Penal Code and the last was permitted via a decision by the STF (Supreme Federal Court) in 2012. For all of these scenarios, there is no gestational age limit for carrying out the procedure.

In this way, it is the time of pregnancy that the project, authored by deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ), targets. The text wants to change the Penal Code to increase the penalty imposed on those who have abortions when there is fetal viability, presumed after 22 weeks of gestation. The idea is to equate the punishment to that of simple homicide, which can reach 20 years. It would be worth it for both pregnant women and those undergoing the procedure.
