After a period of seclusion, Céline Dion has been speaking more to the public about the battle she faces with a neurological disease. The Canadian singer attended the launch of her documentary “I Am: Céline Dion”, on Monday night (17), in New York.
This is the artist’s most recent appearance on a red carpet after announcing that she has stiff person syndrome, in 2022. The production narrates her journey with the disorder, which causes muscle spasms.
“My voice is the driver of my life. Dealing with the disease has been a struggle,” she said at the event. The documentary is scheduled to premiere on June 25th on the Prime Video streaming platform.
Céline also thanked her children and fans for their support. The singer’s eldest son, René-Charles, 23, posed next to his mother at the entrance to the event.
“Thank you to my fans, your presence on my journey has been a gift beyond measure. Your endless love and support has brought me to this moment.”
“I talk in the documentary that I compared myself to an apple. When I told myself I compared myself to an apple on a tree, [disse]’I don’t want you [fãs] Wait in line longer if I don’t have any shiny apples for you,'” she continued. “Then a few days ago I saw a message from a fan that said, ‘We’re not here for the apple. We’re here for the truth.”
In an interview in early June with the American program Today Show, the artist said that she noticed the first symptoms of the disease in 2008, while preparing for a show on the “Taking Chances” tour, but that she only spoke about it in 2022, as she did not know what it was about.
