This year there is a “significant effort to attract talent,” marketing guru and former head of the Taormina Film Festival Tigiana Rocca, who launched the film and TV festival in Sardinia seven years ago, told Variety.

More than 70 international and Italian cinematographic works, feature films, TV series, documentaries and short films will be screened at the Festival.

Netflix’s Japanese anime film “The Imaginary” will premiere on the streaming platform on July 5, the crime thriller “Cult Killer” with Antonio Banderas, who will not be traveling to the island.

Katie Holmes’ drama ‘Rare Objects’ is also on the schedule.

The Festival, as Variety points out, also serves as a campus for more than 2,000 Italian film students from more than 20 film schools who will attend screenings and masterclasses and benefit from informal contact with industry stars and executives.

This year’s Filming Italy Sardegna Festival is dedicated to the late Sandra Milo, star of Federico Fellini’s “8½” and “Juliet of the Spirits,” who died in January at the age of 90.
