The shots from the archaeological site of Evia are awe-inspiring
The aerial shots from the archaeological site of Kolona in Aegina.
The hill of Kolona was the Acropolis of the island from prehistoric times (3000 BC) and even earlier until the archaic times when it was worshiped as a holy place.
The archaeological site of Kolona is located at a very short distance from the port and can be reached on foot in less than 10′ as you exit the port to the left.
From the former religious and political center of the island, today, among other things, a column (height 8m) belonging to the archaic temple of Apollo, from which the attraction got its name, is preserved.
It is even said that Venetian sailors used the columns of the Temple of Apollo for orientation.
One of the most important buildings of the archaeological site of Kolona was undoubtedly the temple of Apollo from which the one pillar that characterizes the entire monument today is preserved.
As pointed out in the related video of Point of View Gr on Youtube, the temple of Apollo was of Doric style, built of local poroli and consisted of 11 columns in length and 6 columns in width. The pediments of the temple (made of Paros marble) depicted the legendary Amazon battles.
