Curling up on his sofa and watching Paul Rudd romantic comedies was the perfect night for the 31-year-old Luke Newtonthe star of its third season Bridgerton.

“It made me realize that we’re not just celebrating the release of the final season of the show, we’re also celebrating the last five years of our lives”he said in one of his interviews at the junket.

The Netflix phenomenon has made Newtown one of Britain’s most in-demand actors, but his first forays into the entertainment industry weren’t acting.

Music was his first love, so much so that he joined a band, ‘South 4’, along with three other members. Although the band’s career was short-lived (they disbanded shortly after their inception), they released one song and, according to the local press at the time, signed a million-pound deal with Eagle Music. News of his past as a member of a One Direction-style boy band reached the ears of his co-star, Nicola Coughlan, which pranked him on set. Most notably, Coughlan made sure to play the group’s unique piece instead of the music programmed into the script during the filming of a dance scene.

His passion for music comes from his father, who took part in ‘Stars in Their Eyes’, a hugely popular competition that aired on UK TV from 1990 to 2006, and his aunts, who they are actors. In fact, he fell in love with acting when he saw them perform in “Les Misérables.” Music led him to acting and his participation in small local productions. He was still a teenager when a theater agent noticed his talent in a adaptation of Billy Elliot. It was the push he needed to take himself seriously. He enrolled at the London School of Musical Theater with the goal of pursuing a career as an actor in musicals.
