The friendship between Rita Lee and Gilberto Gil left many emotional and musical memories. Last Wednesday (26), the singer turned 82 and the singer’s profile published the audio of a tribute she left to her friend before he passed away in May 2023.
“Hey, Gil, ‘XilbertoXil’, this is comadre Rita,” she begins the message, calling her son Beto’s godfather by his affectionate nickname. “I’m stopping by to tell you that I’ve loved you since I saw you, since I heard you, since I learned things from you that I’ve never forgotten. I’ll never forget,” she continues.
Rita ends her message to her longtime friend by declaring her love and wishing him happiness: “I love you very much, God bless you. Physical, mental, spiritual, psychological health, and the whole world to you. I love you, the universe is yours.”
The profile also cited an excerpt from the book “Gilberto bem perto” in the caption, in which Rita tells stories with her musical partner: “Gilberto Gil, a generous friend, called me aside and said ‘come forward, Ritinha, I’m going to introduce you to music’. The first lessons took place in the middle of the madness of the life of a Bahian who had recently arrived in crazy São Paulo”.
Photos and videos of the singers together were also included in the post. In the comments, fans expressed their emotion with the photos. “What beautiful content, what wonderful material from these two shows that we had the pleasure of seeing and appreciating,” wrote one user. “What an event these two were together! The way Rita mentioned Gil in her autobiography was so sweet!” commented another.
“Viva, Rita!!”, wrote Bem Gil, the singer’s son.
