Rapper Wiz Khalifa, 36, has been charged with illegal drug possession and had to be escorted out of a performance in Romania. In the country, cannabis is considered a “risky drug”, and its possession can result in up to ten years in prison.
Videos circulating on social media show the rapper being escorted by Romanian authorities. According to AFP, he even lit up a joint during his performance at the “Beach, Please!” festival, held in the Romanian city of Costinesti, on the shores of the Black Sea.
“During a performance at a music festival held in the resort of Costinesti, the accused was found to be in possession of more than 18 grams of cannabis and consumed (on stage) another quantity in the form of a hand-rolled cigarette,” Romanian prosecutors from the Organized Crime and Terrorism Investigation Directorate said in a statement.
On his X profile, the rapper, who was later heard and released, apologized. “Last night’s show was amazing. I didn’t mean to disrespect the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a giant joint next time,” he wrote.
