Where is Anna Delvey today? All the answers for Inventing Anna

by

If you’ve already finished the mini series “Inventing Anna” on Netflix, then you probably remember this disclaimer at the beginning of each episode.

Since its release on February 11, the series has garnered more than 270 million hours of viewership. Everyone is fascinated by the story of the fake heiress and convicted swindler, whose real name is: Anna Sorokin.

The nine-episode Shonda Rhimes series has glam, real crime, suspense… but there are some questions you may have after the series’ end titles.

Which tracks are real in “Inventing Anna”?

Between 2013 and 2017, Anna Sorokin left her real last name and arrived in New York impersonating a German heiress named Anna Delvi. He wore branded clothes, stayed in boutique hotels and dined in expensive restaurants. But the truth is that Anna comes from Russia and grew up in a working class family. In 2019, Sorokin was sentenced to four to 12 years in prison for theft and fraud.

Some of the other characters in the series, such as Vivian Kent – the journalist investigating Sorokin – also rely on real people. In this case, Jessica Pressler is the IRL journalist who published the viral article in New York Magazine in 2018 about Sorokin’s activities. Rachel DeLoache Williams, Sorokin’s ex-girlfriend, is also a real person. He claims to have paid $ 62,000 for a trip to Morocco with Sorokin – about which he wrote at Vanity Fair and in her book “My Friend Anna: The True Story of a Fake Heiress”.

Where is Anna now?

“Prison is so exhausting, you would not know,” she wrote in February 2021 to her -then- 75,000 followers on Instagram in a post that was posted at 4 in the morning. The image of the unexpected social -but with her big black glasses-, lying on the prison bed Anna today counts more than 7K likes and continues. And her Instagram account has more than 740K followers.

Sorokin was released a few days later. She returned to posting her social media outings in New York. However, she was soon re-detained at ICE due to a visa problem. Sorokin explained that it did not intend to violate any law, adding that “the extension of the visa visa was unintentional and largely out of my control.” He is in danger of being deported to Germany, where he grew up but has appealed and remains in custody at the ICE in upstate New York to this day.

Did Anna return the money? Did he apologize?

Sorokin returned about $ 199,000 to banks. Money that she allegedly repaid with the $ 320,000 given to her by Netflix for the series. He paid another $ 24,000 in state fines and about $ 75,000 in legal fees.

As for whether Sorokin apologized, things are a bit mixed. In 2019, Sorokin told the New York Times “I would lie to you and everyone else and to myself if I said I was sorry for anything” and added that she regretted the way she did certain things. In October 2020, he changed his mind, saying “I’m really ashamed and really sorry for what I did.” Sorokin said she “never had any fraudulent intent” and referred to her conviction to “clear her name”.
