Inauguration of the new lighting of the sanctuary of Poseidon, in Sounio, will take place on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 19:30, by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in the presence of Culture Minister Linas Mendonis and guests from Greece and abroad.

According to the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the lighting was done in 2004, due to Olympic Games of Athens. Its illumination offered a new visual experience, reinforcing Sounio as an international destination for thousands of visitors.
Twenty years later, technology has come on leaps and bounds. The lighting system in Sounio was already antiquated and had suffered the wear and tear of time.

The willingness with which METLEN Energy & Metals and its president, Evangelos Mytilineos, responded to the proposal of the YPPO to undertake the lighting study and the implementation of the project, confirms their commitment to the promotion and protection of our cultural heritage.

On Monday, September 16, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., the inauguration of the new lighting project for the sanctuary of Poseidon, at the cape of Souni, will be celebrated by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in the presence of the Minister of Culture Linas Mendoni and guests from Greece and abroad.

The supervision of the lighting was undertaken by the internationally renowned Liberty Deco.

The new lighting of the Souni temple highlights in a unique way the archaeological and architectural importance of the monument, giving it new dimensions.

Special care was taken to ensure that the visual experience of visitors to the archaeological site during the day would not be disturbed. All the elements of the installation and the lighting fixtures were placed in such a way that they do not obstruct the navigation and do not cause visual disturbance to the visitors.

The positions of the lighting fixtures, as well as the routes of the wiring and electrical installations, were carefully planned and placed in appropriate places to ensure the smooth operation of the space.

OR illumination tth temple will be broadcast internationally, as many museums, universities and educational institutions, cultural centers, chambers from around the world and international news agencies will broadcast the event live.

In Greece, it will be shown live by ERT, as well as via the link: A journey to light – YouTube.
