When you welcome someone new into the family, the stakes couldn’t be higher for their family Michael Schumacher. It’s been 11 years since the horrific accident that was to change her legend’s life forever Formula 1. It was on 29 December 2013, just over a year after retiring as an F1 driver, while he was skiing during the family Christmas holiday with his son Mick (who was 14) in the alpine resort of Meribel (France).

Despite the fact that he was an excellent skier, the fatal accident happened on a simple route. Schumacher was wearing a helmet (with a camera mounted on it), but based on the speed and severity of the impact he was unable to protect himself. Rescuers arrive by helicopter and take him – initially – to the hospital in Moutiers and then to the one in Grenoble. The brain injuries he suffered were very serious. His condition was dramatic. He was operated on twice, with doctors trying to keep him alive. The doctors succeeded, but the Formula 1 world was and still is in shock…

His family and those close to him have guarded his private life so fiercely that he has not been photographed in public once since that fateful day… However, the Laila Hasanovic, the 24-year-old girlfriend of Michael and Corinna’s youngest son Mick is said to be one of the few people to see Michael Schumacher. It is worth noting that the health status of the Formula 1 legend has never been revealed to the fans.

25-year-old Mick – also an F1 driver – and Bosnian-born Laila have been together for 18 months and, according to German newspaper Bild, is the only one of his girlfriends who has been allowed to visit Schumacher. Bild reports that the family are “crazy” about the model, who is regularly included in their family plans, and last March she was photographed with Michael’s wife Corinna in Qatar.

It is worth noting that reports in the international press indicate that the Formula 1 legend “attended” the wedding of his daughter, Gina, at the family’s home in Spain last weekend. However, it may simply be “fake news” – it won’t be the first time – while there is no photo to confirm this particular news or report.

Laila was born in Bosnia but grew up in a small town in Denmark before moving to Copenhagen when she was 19. Despite now being a social media boomer with more than 300,000 Instagram followers, Laila revealed she was such a shy child that her mother sought medical help.

At the age of 15, he moved to Kentucky for a year as part of an exchange student program. Laila originally wanted to get into crime solving because of her love of documentaries, but after securing her first campaign at the age of 16, she was ‘won over’ by the glamorous world of modelling.

“I did my first Instagram campaign when I was 16 and it was for a watch brand called Daniel Wellington, and since then I’ve slowly started working on social media,” he explained. Unlike Mick, Laila doesn’t feel comfortable behind the wheel, adding: “I got my driver’s license when I was 17 and since then I’ve never felt comfortable driving. I always try to practice as much as I can, I just don’t enjoy it that much.”

Family is paramount to Laila, and she described her mother as her best friend. “I have the closest relationship with my mom, she’s literally my best friend.” Mick and Laila are often spotted soaking up the sun on tropical islands, and the couple may soon be getting married.
