French President Emmanuel Macron said today that he will fight to ensure that Emilie, the heroine of Netflix’s “Emilie in Paris” series, returns to the French capital from Rome.

“We will fight hard. And we will ask them to stay in Paris. “Emilie in Paris” in Rome makes no sense,” Macron said in an interview with Variety magazine.

In the fourth season of the series, the young American Emily, played by actress Lily Collins, moved from Paris to Rome for work.

The show’s success is such that even Macron’s wife, Brigitte, made a cameo appearance in the previous season.

“I was very proud and she was very happy that she did it. It only lasts a few minutes but I think it was a very good moment for her,” the French president said of his wife’s appearance.

“I think it’s very good for the image of France,” Macron added, referring to the series’ impact abroad.

The series has won fanatical fans for the idealized and romantic way it portrays everyday life in Paris. Others, however, criticize it because this portrayal has nothing to do with reality and avoids showing the poorest districts of the city.
