The exhibition revisits the early years of the artist’s career
Dedicated to one of the most important representatives of the abstract expressionism movement, the American painter Jackson Pollock, is report “Jackson Pollock: The Early Years (1934-1947)” which opens next week at the Picasso Museum in Paris.
The exhibition retraces the early years of the artist’s career, which was marked by the influence of regionalism and Mexican muralists, up to his first dripping works in 1947.
The works presented in the exhibition bear witness to the diverse sources that nourished the young artist’s research, crossing the influence of Native American arts with that of European pioneers, among whom Pablo Picasso is prominent, says the description of the exhibition curated Joanne Snrech, painting curator and Orane Stalpers heritage conservator.

Compared to the Spanish painter and the great names of European painting, Pollock quickly established himself as a true monument of American painting, and in doing so, isolated himself from the more complex networks of exchange of influences that fed his work during his years in New York.
The aim of the exhibition is to present in detail these years, which constituted his workshop, to focus on several key moments of the artistic and intellectual development of the young Pollock and to highlight the uniqueness of his work in its various dimensions (painting, engraving, sculpture) .
About one hundred paintings, prints and sculptures on loan from prestigious museums such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Pompidou Center and the Tate Gallery of Modern Art and from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation will be on display from 15 October 2024 to January 19, 2025 at the Picasso Museum in Paris.
