Actress Amanda Bynes, 35, shared a video to fans on Instagram – on a new account – to thank them for their support after she asked for the termination of her mother’s guardianship after nearly nine years. Her defense filed a petition in the Superior Court of Ventura County, California, on February 23.
“What’s up, Instagram? Amanda Bynes here”, he said in a video shared on Monday (7). “My trial date is coming up in two weeks. I want to thank you all for your love and support. Peace to you,” said the actress, who tagged some media in the caption.
The new Instagram profile was created after the actress asked the American Justice to end the guardianship, according to Page Six. The actress’s account has a picture of her and fiance Paul Michael on her profile, while her bio simply reads, “check back for updates on the new fragrance.”
In October 2020, Bynes’ lawyer said she was considering entering the perfume market in addition to exploring fashion. “Amanda is very entrepreneurial,” shared attorney David A. Esquibias. “She is now considering perfumes in addition to a clothing line.”
Bynes also filed a declaration of capacity, as California requires all guardianship cases to have up-to-date records on a conservator’s mental status from their physician, psychologist or religious healing practitioner. The hearing is scheduled for March 22.
David A. Esquibias, Bynes’ attorney, said in a statement to People: “Amanda wishes to end her guardianship. She believes her condition has improved and court protection is no longer needed.”
Unlike Britney Spears’ guardianship case, Bynes’ quest to get out of it is fully supported by her parents and has been ongoing for years. The former Nickelodeon actress was placed under guardianship in August 2013, giving her mother Lynn Bynes legal control of all of her medical and financial affairs.
This came after the actress, then 27, was placed in involuntary psychiatric prison for allegedly starting a fire in an elderly lady’s garage.
In September of last year, a report on Bynes’ health was filed and approved by a California court with the next update scheduled for January 2023. Contrary to reports at the time, Esquibias explained that his guardianship “was not extended” until 2023
Since August 2013, Bynes’ mother Lynn has had temporary custody of her daughter after she allegedly burned down a garage and was hospitalized in a psychiatric prison. As a result, she has legal control over her daughter’s personal, medical and financial affairs.
The actress published a post on Twitter in November 2014, saying she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a month after a second hospitalization. In recent years, Bynes has been in and out of mental health facilities while battling addiction.
The actress announced in November 2018 that she had been sober for four years, but returned to treatment two months later, after what was reported as a “stress-related relapse”.
Bynes became known for films such as “She’s the Man” (2006) and “Hairspray” (2007). Her last big screen role was in “The Lie” (2010), as Marianne.
