The questioning due to external appearance, the difficult partnerships and the lack of complex
Born and raised in Thessaloniki Orestis Giovas at the age of 21 he moved to Athens “holding” a suitcase full of dreams. After his studies at the Dramatic School of the National Theater he made his television debut in the 2007-2008 season in the comedy series of Lefteris Kaponis, “You keep me mad” having the leading role. This was followed by a participation in the series “I saw you” while in the 2008-2009 season he starred together with Gerasimos Skiadaresi, Maria Kavogianni and Patricia Peristeri in the social series and a great television success at the time, “Hara Agnoitaida”.
And from then on, one job followed the other, except for a time when, as he says speaking to Andreas Theodorou in the published Sozi, his professional career went “downhill”. This year he returns with a collaboration with Manousos Manousakis and the new police series he is preparing entitled “The Net”
-What made you say “yes” to “Net”?
“Certainly Manousos Manousakis and later all the other partners.”

-Are you worried about how the series will fare in terms of ratings, or is it something you’ve gotten used to after all these years?
“When a series is on ERT, I’m not so concerned about the viewing figures because it’s a channel that doesn’t usually cut its series. If we were on another channel we would definitely have this stress and anxiety. Okay, that’s not completely unfair, the people who do it are entrepreneurs and they care about the percentages
television viewing”.
– Have you experienced the difficult side of this profession, unemployment, insecurity?
“Of course I have experienced unemployment and not only at the beginning of my career. I started very well, but I developed a big belly along the way. But within the game is this. It’s no coincidence that anyone who tells you that you want to be an actor tells you that it’s a profession with terrible unemployment and asks if you have the stomach to endure it.
I can do it, I also did leg work. Of course I was younger, if it happens to me at 50-55 I don’t know if it will be easy. I hope it doesn’t happen.”
-After all these years, are you in the process of calling a director or producer and asking for a job?
“Yes, of course I’ll call and ask for a job, I don’t have that complex.”
-Did your appearance help you in your career?
“Let me tell you, my appearance was often an obstacle rather than a ticket. When you see a handsome man or woman you say he will be a fool and a fool. There is a racism towards good looks because others think that is a ticket for you. But beauty standards are also stupid because they change over the years.”
-Have you experienced difficult collaborations in this space?
“Yes, of course I experienced difficult collaborations in this area. It’s something we’ve all felt or seen happen in our space. Fortunately, after #MeToo, things have changed quite a bit.”
