Maitê Proença says she suffered from the exposure of her mother’s murder on TV: ‘It was my secret’

Maitê Proença, 66, experienced a family tragedy at the age of 12. Her mother, Margot Proença, was murdered by her husband, Eduardo Gallo, the actress’s father. For many years, she kept the episode a secret, but her life changed after the drama was exposed on a TV program 19 years ago.

During a recent interview with the podcast “Retiro o que Eu Disse”, Maitê Proença said she was hurt by what she considered an “invasion of privacy”. “I had a family story that was my secret. I spent 25 years of my public career without talking about it, because I thought that this story was not only mine, but also that of other people… One day, I went to a talk show, and they told part of that story”, he recalled.

Maitê continued: “From that moment on, the brown press gained freedom to touch on that. I became another person. I was no longer a girl from the pink world, I was a person with a tragedy”, acknowledged the actress who managed to sell your apartment in the Chopin building, next to the Copacabana Palace, announced more than a year ago.

To deal with the situation and regain some control over her story, the actress became a writer and wrote a fiction book with biographical elements. “There were two women to confuse, and no one would know who I was… The book sold 150 thousand copies”, he added.

The revelation about the murder of Maitê Proença’s mother occurred during the program Domingão do Faustão, still on Globo, in 2005. Fausto Silva called the actress on stage to participate in the section Arquivo Confidencial and, live, exposed the story. “Not many people know, but I’ll say it here… Here’s the thing: her mother was murdered by her father in an argument. She was 12 years old. Can you imagine going through a problem like that? Nobody knows what this woman went through” , declared the presenter at the time.
