After pressure on social media, Jussie Smollet leaves the prison’s psychiatric ward

by

Jussie Smollett, 39, is out of the psych ward at Cook County Jail. He had been placed in the special area last weekend because of official sentencing documents, which indicated he was at risk of injury.

According to the artist’s brother, Jocqui Smollett, Jussie’s relocation only took place because fans pressured the decision through the “Free Jussie” movement. He added that removing Jussie from the psych ward is a big step, and takes him from a restricted bed to a normal one.

“[A cadeia] Cook County doesn’t really move until they get bad publicity. Keep calling Cook County Jail to check on him. [Jussie] and keep saying that you believe he should be released”.

Jocqui says the pressure on the county is what got Jussie out of the psych ward, and believes that continued force can free him from prison.

A representative from the chair’s office told TMZ that “Mr. Smollett’s housing unit was moved on Monday to a different cell within Division 8” and that he was transferred from that cell because “Cermak Health Services needed his cell for another detainee”.

“This was a decision made by the medical professionals. Mr. Smollett was never confined to a bed or anything else in the cell,” he said.

Smollett, who was part of the cast of the series “Empire”, was sentenced this week to 150 days in prison when he was found guilty of fabricating a hate crime against himself in 2019. In court, he cried and protested after the sentence was revealed.

The actor will still have to pay the equivalent of BRL 600,000 to Chicago authorities and a fine of BRL 125,000. In addition, he will have to serve 30 months of probation.

According to Deadline, as the sentence was read and officers prepared to take him to the Cook County Jail, Smollett took off his mask, stood up and repeatedly said, “I’m not suicidal.” He even gave a warning: “If anything happens to me there [na cadeia], I did not do. I’m not suicidal, I’m innocent,” she said.
