There are people who are born with samba in the foot. Others are discovering over the years that they have a manner and molejo for dance. And there are those who really need a little help to scratch the avenue with a lot of Ziriguidum.

If yours is this last case, be aware that there are increasingly requested professionals in samba schools and also in life: samba teachers. Some have been passers since childhood. They were born in families rooted in samba and, for them, the coordination of arms, hip, head, feet and waist (all at the same time) is not so complicated.

And they guarantee: you can really learn from scratch. “Like anything in life we want to learn, we need to like, have willingness and dedication. Sambar is not a seven -headed animal,” says Gabriel Castro. Director of the Vila Isabel Passagers Wing at Carnival 2025, he has taught Aline Campos, Yasmin Brunet, Gabriela Versiani, Tati Minerato, Gabi Martins, among other famous.

Castro states that the predisposition to dance helps, but what values most is discipline. “I’m a little boring (laughs) and get it on my feet. My luck is that the students embark on me and surrender. It’s too good to see a student samba well in a short time,” he notes, who around and half tends courses in Europe.

Paulista Mayara Santos began at Morro da Casa Verde school at the age of 3. There are 33 years of avenue, but 10 years ago, it was no longer a passista to dedicate itself exclusively to teaching samba classes throughout Brazil. Among his current students are Patrícia Poeta, Luciana Gimenez and former Faustão Nathalia Zannin, as well as several muses and highlights.

“Sambar is contagious, and that’s what moves me,” comments Santos. “Seeing people, regardless of sex and bodies, surrendering to dance is very rewarding for me.”

The teacher teaches that releasing her hip is the first step for those who want to learn to sambar. He has used hula hoops with his students, but today he prefers to resort to broom cables and exercise, such as board and squats. She also uses dumbbells to strengthen her arms and still works breathing to increase concentration. “All this is to give rhythm and help in concentration,” he says.

When asked what would be a main requirements for learning to sambar, Santos does not think twice about pointing out self -acceptance. “I’ve come across several women saying ‘oh … my body’ or ‘my husband doesn’t find it cool I sambar.’ Some even come with the idea that sambar is vulgar, a superxposure of sensuality. It’s hard to learn anything when you start with some resistance,” he says.

The brothers Victor Hugo Allonzo and Marcus Prado also started in samba as children. Children of the same father, while the former raised himself on the court of the green shirt and white school, the second defended the Vai-Vai pavilion for years.

Today, the two are Passists of the Golden Eagle and, among the rehearsals, teach to Sabrina Sato, Nicolas Prattes and Erika Januza. The pair still have other famous people as students, but most prefer to be discreet. In fact, as well as the others consulted for this text, they also do not inform the values of their classes.

“We respect and do not disclose the names. We try to answer everyone who seeks us: in the morning, at night, at dawn … Any time,” explains Victor.

He and Marcus spend half the year outside Brazil teaching in countries such as Portugal, France, Australia and even on Caribbean Martinica Island. The method they use is traditional: a lot of foot samba and daily practice of 10 to 15 minutes.

“It has to practice. Our technique is to show the student of what he is capable. We identify and highlight the movements so that they understand and can practice alone,” teaches Marcus.

“We also take the foot, but we are fully aware that it is not easy to coordinate arms, feet and hip at the same time,” says Victor Hugo. “It’s a lot of information. But you can learn yes, and it’s very pleasant and invigorating. I recommend it.”
