The work, which was thrown was a 1980s silk -screen printing with Queen Beatrice – a municipality in the Netherlands assumed responsibility
In the hands of Andy Warhol, the garbage was often transformed into works of art. So perhaps the image of pop culture would not be very upset if he learned that in the hands of a Dutch municipality, one of his artwork … was thrown with the trash.
The Town Hall of Maharossst confessed on Thursday that a rare Warhol work, which died in 1987, was among 46 valuable works of art that were “probably” thrown into the trash during renovation work last year.
‘This is not the way you treat valuable items’, The Mayor, Hans Van Der Pas, said on the NOS public broadcasting network.
“It is a serious issue when public property, especially art of cultural and historical value, is so carelessly treated … but it happened. We’re sorry for that, ” noted.
Town Hall stated that the works, including one Warhol her 1980s with Beatricewas part of the municipality’s collection.
It had been census in the artworks and some were transferred to a local museum, while others were placed in the New Town Hall and others were returned to the artists. In this process, however, 46 works of art were lost.
“Most likely, artworks were accidentally removed along with rubbish”said the Mahaross of the Town Hall.
Many of the artworks were kept in a basement of the City Hall during renovation work but were not treated carefully, the agency said. In fact, he had suffered damage, according to the Guardian.
The works that have been thrown are likely to never be found again.
