Tom Cruise will not be among this year’s Kennedy Center honorees. According to The Washington Post, the star of “Mission: Impossible” received the invitation to join the group of artists celebrated in the 2025 edition, but refused the offer.
Officials of the institution stated that the official justification was an “schedule conflict”, although the refusal occurs at a time of Donald Trump’s strong influence on the event.
The US president would have intensified, earlier this year, efforts to take on greater control over the Kennedy Center art complex, as People magazine revealed.
The honored list, announced in the Nations Hall, includes George Strait, Kiss band Michael Crawford, Gloria Gaynor and Sylvester Stallone.
Trump, who actively participates in the national team, did not hide his role in the process. “I would say I was about 98% involved. Everyone passed me,” he told the post. The ceremony is scheduled for December 7, with later transmission by CBS and Paramount+.
Cruise’s absence draws attention, as the event is considered one of the most prestigious cultural honors in the United States. The Kennedy Center Honors celebrates artists who contributed significantly to American culture, gathering names of music, cinema, theater and dance.
