One of them is the father of a teenager, who is discovering the challenges and news of the world. The other is an Arab businessman in love with his wife and not satisfied that she doesn’t love another. The characters Said and Otto are completely different, but for actor Dalton Vigh, 57, built the same way.
With more than 25 years of work in soap operas, the actor is on the air today in a double dose, and on competing stations. On SBT, he is Otto in the recently released “Poliana Moça” (2022, SBT), which succeeds the hit “As Aventuras de Poliana” (SBT, 2018-2020), while on Globo he plays Said in the rerun of “O Clone ” (2001-2002, Globo).
Vigh stated, in an email interview with the F5, that this is a great opportunity to see the evolution between his roles and soap operas, although he admits he doesn’t have much time to watch them. Asked about these differences, however, he jokes that the biggest of them “is the 20 years that separate the roles”.
Aside from age, however, the two characters had different goals and issues. “One wanted his wife to love him by force and the other wanted to build a robot to replace his dead daughter”, recalls the artist, who highlights that Said, from “The Clone”, ends up being content with his troubled relationship.
“[Já] Otto seeks redemption”, he highlights about his role, which comes with yet another stimulus. Vigh gives life to Poliana’s adoptive father from the first phase of the soap opera, “As Aventuras de Poliana”, which had more than 500 chapters, and had its continuation only in 2022, after postponements due to the Covid pandemic.
He says that, despite having already revisited characters in other plots such as the miniseries “Lara com Z” (2011) and “Fifty” (2009), Otto has undergone significant changes, both in the way he acts and in the way he thinks. For Vigh, playing the character would be challenging and thought-provoking for any actor.
In addition, he evaluates that it is always difficult to work with the same character for a long time, and it is necessary to be careful not to fall into repetitions in the way of acting. “The great challenge of doing an extensive work is for the actor not to settle down and go on autopilot”, he says, in an interview with F5.
“He was a bitter and unhappy character and it was through living with Poliana that he got in touch with his own feelings and became a much more affable person, already at the end of the first season”, he commented. “In his case, it was not a reconstruction, but a deconstruction”, completed the artist.
The novel by Íris Abravanel will address topics such as Covid, empowerment and maturation in this new stage of Poliana. “In this adaptation we try to bring to our reality a little of everything. It is a motivational novel”, said the author before the premiere, on March 21. As for Otto’s role in the plot, Vigh and fans will wait and see.
