Actor Johnny Depp, 58, said during the trial of the case against his ex-wife Amber Heard, 35, that he would not return to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise by any agreement. In the movies, he became known for playing Captain Jack Sparrow.
“If Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing in this world would make you go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean movie? Correct?” , questioned Ben Rottenborn, Heard’s lawyer. “That’s true,” replied the actor, in an excerpt reproduced by Variety magazine.
The suit centers on a lawsuit the actor brought against Heard, who wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post in 2018, saying she had become a “public figure representing domestic abuse”. Depp claims the article hurt his career and stripped him of the role of Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean 6”.
The artist said that while Disney chose to keep the character’s image across all strands and products of the franchise, he was cut. “They didn’t remove my character from the toys,” he began. “They didn’t stop selling Captain Jack Sparrow dolls. They didn’t stop selling anything. They just didn’t want there to be anything of me that they found.”
The actor says he believes his career has been “finished” since “the second the allegations were made against me”. “Once that happened, I lost,” he added. “No matter the outcome of this trial, I will carry this with me for the rest of my days. I am suing her for libel and the various falsehoods she used to end my life.”
The trial of the lawsuit that the actor is bringing against his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, 35, for defamation, began on April 11, in Virginia, in the United States, and is expected to last about six weeks. In addition, all procedures will be televised.
