Actress Amber Heard, 36, switched PR staff days before testifying in court in the defamation lawsuit filed by ex-husband Johnny Depp, 58. She is not enjoying the media coverage she is getting over her legal battle with Depp, according to The Post.
The “Aquaman” actress walked out on public relations firm Precision Strategies on Thursday after becoming frustrated with the press since she began her libel trial last month. Sources say she doesn’t like bad headlines and that her story hasn’t been told effectively.
Depp is suing Heard for $50 million, alleging that his ex-wife defamed him in a 2018 Washington Post editorial where she discussed being a victim of domestic violence. Heard’s attorney argues that Depp abused the actress physically and sexually.
The actress, who is due to begin testifying on Tuesday (3), now has consulting firm Shane Communications to help her better position herself in the court of public opinion. The new PR team, led by CEO David Shane, has worked against Depp before.
The sudden public relations shift came after several days of witness court depositions from Depp and an inflamed social media mob that turned against Heard.
The company helped highlight allegations put forward by Depp’s former business managers, The Management Group, alleging that the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star needed to hire a psychiatrist for his habit of “compulsive spending” of $2 million a month. (approximately R$9.9 million).
Still, communications experts said Heard’s new PR team has an uphill battle ahead.
Heard was opposed to the idea of having cameras in the courtroom, however, Johnny Depp’s team won the motion for everything that took place during the trial to be televised, without the opportunity to select what information would be released and what would not be seen.
