by

The vigilance for the timely detection of cases acute hepatitis of unknown etiology in children persists without widespread dispersal. To date the total number worldwide there are 614 casesof which 176 have been declared by the United Kingdom and 125 by 14 countries of the European Union.

In our country, in the last week they have been identified two new cases of children who meet the criteria of the “possible case” of acute hepatitis of unknown etiology, as defined by the World Health Organization.

The first concerns a child of 5 years who experienced abdominal pain without other concomitant symptoms and laboratory tests revealed elevated transaminases> 500 IU / ml, without evidence of infection or other cause justifying this increase. The another child aged 2 years shows a gradual increase in transaminases from two months, which was found after laboratory testing, without coexisting symptomatology.

The first child was hospitalized, improved and came out in excellent condition. The second was admitted to the hospital and underwent an extensive diagnostic test to determine the cause of the increase in liver enzymes. The test was negative and throughout the hospitalization the child remained in excellent condition.
