This happens either in front of the mirror or in discussions about the body and the points that need improvement. Even in publications about gaining a shapely appearance, this accumulation of fat is described and / or perceived as obesity, when it is not.
It is actually a problem in the way the body manages and stores fat, but its characteristic is that, unlike obesity, it is not affected by weight loss and seems to “prefer” women. But it is a problem that is completely addressed by offering the desired results.
Lipodystrophy
Excessive accumulation of fat in certain parts of the body and face is called lipodystrophy.
“Lipodystrophy in the neck (double jaw), knees, thighs and around the ankles is completely different from other localizations in the body, because in the aforementioned places it is very difficult to hide.
Especially lipodystrophy in the knees, calves and ankles is independent of weight loss and is not differentiated by diet or exercise. It usually occurs in early adolescence and is attributed to hereditary factors.
The deposition of fat in these places often shows, even thin people, to look fatter than they really are. This is an intensely annoying aesthetic deformity “, explains Mr. George Papageorgiou, Plastic Surgeon, Doctor of the University of Athens, Director of Plastic Surgery at the Metropolitan Hospital.
The knees present a thickened image, losing their shape. Excess fat on the anterior surface of the thigh spreads over the tendon of the quadriceps muscle and the patella to its lower and inner border, resulting in the image of a “box” in the area.
As for the calves and ankles, the accumulation of fat there gives the image of an amorphous thickened tube, without distinguishing the normal curves on their anterior and posterior surfaces.
In addition to the negative psychological burden, this lipodystrophy also creates functional problems. It is almost impossible to wear high boots, skinny pants, short skirts and high heels.
Liposculpture: The best solution
The best solution to deal with this problem is liposculpture surgery, in which the excess volume of adipose tissue is removed from the affected areas, in order to form a more harmonious image.
Liposculpture in these areas is done with very thin cannulas with the help of which the curves and recesses are formed around the knees, the areas of the gastrocnemius and mainly the hammers (ankles) and the Achilles tendon, which ends in the heel. It is a detailed operation that requires special handling, knowledge and experience and has very good results, since it literally changes the entire appearance of the legs.
The resulting change helps boost confidence and femininity and changes women’s clothing choices.
“After the operation, it is necessary to wear orthopedic tights for 30 days, in order to avoid severe swelling in the area. It is not accompanied by pain and the bruises that are created subside quickly over the days.
The smooth return to the activities starts after a week, with the condition that during the day there will be some breaks with the placement of the legs a little higher “, concludes Mr. Papageorgiou.
